Dr. Diane White-Clayton
Guest Clinician

Dr. Diane White-Clayton, affectionately known as “Dr. Dee,” is a composer, conductor, soprano and pianist in both classical and gospel domains.  Originally from Washington, DC, she holds a PhD & MA in Music Composition from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a BA in Music from Washington University in St. Louis.  She studied in Paris, France as a Rotary Scholar, representing the United States as an Ambassador of Goodwill.  A member of the faculty of the UCLA, Dr. Dee is the Founding Director of the BYTHAX Ensemble and Artistic Director of the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers. She travels extensively as artist, conductor and clinician and her choral compositions have been performed across the globe.

A Baptist preacher’s daughter, Dr. Dee commands the podium as powerfully as she does the stage. She quickly creates an intimacy with her audience whether in an arena of thousands or a virtual classroom of twenty. A versatile speaker, one moment she’s lecturing on West African retentions in Gospel music. The next moment she’s inspiring underrepresented youth to envision success in higher education.

Whether giving practical advice from her book to single women or challenging minds with thought-provoking insight into Scriptures Dr. Dee brings the same compassion, transparency, motivation and humor to each lecture, talk or sermon. She has a way of going to the core of who you are with healing and love. By the end of your time with her, you’re motivated to reach higher and strengthened to go deeper.

People of God’s Heart

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness”, made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
